If you want to business in India then you’re going to want to read The Modern Mughal Mentality” . Afshan Hashmi has a very creditable background in academia and writes passionately about what it takes to succeed in today’s economy. She stresses the concept of Jugaad which is basically obtaining objectives by thinking out of the box while stressing innovation and goes as far as providing historical examples of this type of forward thinking. But this isn’t just an anecdotal exercise, Afshan is too scholarly for that and provides a step by step review of how businesses can break from the norm and their competition. It’s an easy to read book that will give the business owner and manager much to think about beyond the usual six-sigma mantra. It’s the type of thinking Steve Jobs would have approved of!

While this novel really doesn’t apply to me, as I am not an aspiring business owner in India, I could still appreciate Dr. Afshan Naheed Hashmi’s authority and knowledge of the subject. It was very interesting to read about and I think things from this novel could even help anyone who is an aspiring business owner or business owner themsevles. There are many things that can really translate to other countries. It goes to show how while some things are drastically different, there are things that every business owner should do.
